Obituary of Alfred Lewers Sr 
March 25, 1937 ~ December 18, 2022

Alfred Lewers Sr. was born March 22, 1937, in Piedmont, South Carolina, to the late James T. Lewers and the late Verdie Lee Evans Lewers. Alfred has one surviving brother, David Lewers, of Piedmont, South Carolina. 

After serving in the United States Navy as an Aviation Mechanic, Alfred moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL, in 1958, where he met and fell madly in love with and ultimately married Virginia Frances Williams. They were the parents of four children; David Alexander Williams (Carolyn), Fort Lauderdale, FL, Cheryl Denise Newbold (Bruce) Fairburn, GA; Alfred Lewers Jr. (Maxine), Coconut Creek, FL; CeCelia Dionne Lewers-Brown (Bobby); Savannah, GA and an adopted daughter Tameka Lashay Harrold, Deerfield Beach, FL. 

Alfred transitioned his aviation mechanics skills into the craft of auto mechanics and eventually opened one of several black-owned businesses in Fort Lauderdale in the early 1970s. He became the proprietor of Al’s Amoco gas station in Fort Lauderdale, where he was well-known for his advanced technical knowledge, trustworthiness, and compassion toward his customers. Alfred later became a cab driver for the Yellow Cab company in Fort Lauderdale until his retirement. In addition, he loved fishing and was an avid gardener, a skill perfected during his time on the family farm in South Carolina.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children David, Alfred Jr, Cheryl, and Cecelia, along with his step-children Sterling, Rodney, Gary, Milton, Michael, Bernard, Carol, Belva, and Lisa. 18 grandchildren: (David) Dexter, Skylar, Darius, Leja – (Cheryl) Christopher, Christal, William, Cathy – (Alfred Jr.) Victoria, Alfred III, Grant, Rebecca – (CeCelia) Serena, Nikko – (Tameka) Taneisha, Rashard, Shanterria, Gregory, Jr. 10 great-grandchildren. As well as his remaining sibling, David L. Lewers Sr, of Piedmont, South Carolina. A host of nieces, nephews, fishing buddies, and friends.

Mr. Lewers was preceded in death by his wives, Virginia Frances and Avery Jean, as well as his siblings, Benjamin F. Lewers Sr, Grant Lewers, James W. Lewers Sr., John Henry Lewers Sr., J.D. Lewers Sr., Sisters Bessie L Sweeney, Verdie L Boyd, and Emma Jean Lewers.
