Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery

The memorial service K.A.P. held for you was a beautiful way for us to see you as the staff and students there did.
One student, Diego, has dedicated his Senior year to you regarding his grades and behavior.
He admitted that he had “bumped heads” with you on several occasions but that in retrospect he realizes you were inspiring him to do better, be better, and realize his potential.
Diego gave me his cross necklace and asked that we add it to the memorial space mom has for you now in her home. It will be included!
One student even came up to salute you and the men who attended from the VFW. They will complete your passion-project regarding the school flagpole. They will add a memorial plaque there in your honor!
We got to visit your classroom, and what an experience that was! You and your maps & flags…I could feel your spirit there..
Many of us chose items there to keep as keepsakes of you, no doubt.
It was an awesome event, as it allowed us to see you as the teacher and mentor you were with that school.
Tears fell and spirits swelled as we remember you!

Too soon and sudden you are gone, my brother…
This process of acceptance is so heavy and raw. The shock of it, the sting…
It has humbled me like no other experience has, more so than we lost dad or the grandparents…
I know you are in the arms of angels now, at peace, yet I wanted you here with us longer, as we’d talked about…
Here we will keep you with us, as in our hearts & homes. I cannot change this permanence of your passing. I will, however, change some things about myself, my character, in response.
In that way, I honor you and our family.
