Chappo (1867-1894) is a Notable burial at https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/mobile.asp.  He was the first son of Apache leader Geronimo. When he was captured in 1886, he was sent to the Carlisle School in Pennsylvania. After contracting tuberculosis, he was sent back to live with his family at Mt. Vernon, Alabama where he died.   Son of Apache leader Geronimo. A small band of runaway Apaches that included Geronimo and his son Chappo fought off over 5,000 US Troops which relentlessly attacked them for over 2 years. Member of Company I of the 12th United States Infantry. He attended the Carlisle Indian School in Carlisle, PA, Captain Henry Pratt was the superintendent of Carlisle at the time.  *The preceding content is not intended as a comprehensive biography, but it highlights their significance as a result of military or civilian distinction, lasting achievements, or association with impactful national events.
