He received the Medal of Honor while serving in the U.S. Army, Company L, 337th Infantry, 85th Infantry Division, for actions near Guignola, Italy, October 1-2, 1944. His citation was awarded under his given name, Christos H. Karaberis; he changed his name to Carr sometime later. Carr was born Christos H. Karaberis in Manchester, New Hampshire. He joined the Army from his hometown in October 1942 and by October 1, 1944, was serving as a sergeant in Company L, 337th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division. On that day and the following day, near Guignola, Italy, he single-handedly attacked and captured five German machine gun emplacements. Los Angeles National Cemetery

My name is Jason Bostick. I was the Scoutmaster for BSA Troop 948 (Torrance, CA). For over ten years, we participated in the flag planting ceremony at Los Angeles National Cemetery. Every year, we visited SFC Carr's grave and invited the new scouts to read the citation for his Medal of Honor. It was a privilege to ensure that he, and the 88,000 men and women who have been laid to rest in Los Angeles were remembered at least once a year. Thank you.

Nov 11 2023. I am Christine J Karaberis miller, my father is Christos Karaberis aka Chris Carr my grandfather Arthur (mathos) Karaberis was born in Larissa Greece,1888. Came to America in 1900s settled in east coast, Maine/New Hampshire had 5 sons all served in WWII all came home. 

Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Your service is a testament to the motto of New Hampshire, "Live free or die."
