Corporal Conrad Baldwin Dunsmore was born on January 13, 1931, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to bookkeeper Stuart Baldwin Dunsmore and Ethel Pearl Hiserman, the youngest of six children.  Sadly, his father died in June 1932, leaving Ethel to raise Conrad and his siblings.  Two of his older brothers, Stuart and Walter, served in the Army during World War II.  Walter was among the first soldiers to cross the Rhine River over the bridge at Remagen in March 1945.  Conrad played baseball at Lane High School in Charlottesville and after graduation was inducted into the Army in January 1951.  In October 1951 he was assigned to the Army Chemical Corps School at Fort McClellan, Alabama.  After being discharged from the Army, Conrad returned to Charlottesville and worked as a brick mason.  In July 1959 he married Frances Geraldine Critzer and their son Jeffrey Scott Dunsmore was born in 1962.  Conrad worked for Powell Transfer and Storage in the 1960s while coaching Little League Baseball and playing golf.  By the 1980s he was employed by R.E. Lee and Sons Construction Company.  Geraldine passed away on December 12, 2002, and Conrad died on October 6, 2012.  Unfortunately, no family claimed his remains.  In 2024 the Missing in America Project (MIAP) made arrangements with the Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville to give Conrad and 13 other unclaimed veterans and spouses a proper interment at Culpeper National Cemetery.  MIAP works to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed remains of American veterans with honor and respect.  Conrad and the others were interred in Section CA of Culpeper on April 12, 2024, with full military honors.
