Dale had recently graduated from Purdue University with an Engineering degree.  Dale had a passion for radios beginning in high school and was involved in amateur radio activities his entire life (W9TIL).  He was drafted into the US Army February 1, 1951.  He was stationed in Aberdeen, MD and taught Electronics, Math and Radio.  He also worked on, and tested various radio and electronic components. He also spent some time at Ft. Belvoir, VA, doing some of the same activities.  He took several trips to White Sands Missile Test Area in CA.  He was involved with the radio activities during the testing of several new weapon systems.  He received an Honorable Discharge (DD214) on January 1, 1953.  Dale had met Doris Peeks, a Valparaiso University graduate who was working for the Christian Day School in Detroit.  Dale continued to write her while in the service.  When Dale got out of the Army in 1953 he married Doris (the eventually had 5 children).  He then went to look for a job in the South Bend / Mishawaka, IN area.  He applied for an engineering position at Bendix’s new Missile Plant in Mishawaka, IN.  He was hired to work on the Talos missile program in their Electronics Diagnostics and Quality Control department.  He tested all the electronics on the missile.  Eventually, he became a Supervisor of the Quality Control team.  He took several trips with Bendix to White Sands Test Area (Missile Range), to test the Talos missile.  Today there is a Talos missile display in the South Bend International Airport.  There is also a Talos Missile on display at the Air and Space Museum Annex at Dulles in Washington, DC.

It was pretty embarrassing since our friends all had livestock hauling trucks and/or horse trailers.......but it got the job done.

Dale and Doris constructed the Loch Ness Monster out of Osage Orange limbs.  As we were getting ready to sell the homestead, we decided to brighten it up.  

Dale and Doris constructed this Loch Ness Monster for their grandkids.  You could see it from the road and many people stopped to take pictures with it.

The "Eyes of All" prayer was recited by Hi Peeks on Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Doris grew up thinking he said "Isoval" instead of Eyes of All.  She would ask daddy to say the "Isoval" prayer.

Dale Miller - first anniversary of death as recalled.

This is a summary of the April 2018 trip to get the homestead fixed up and ready for listing.

Dale was my first cousin, several years older than I.  One of my fondest early memories is, when I was 8 or 10, staying overnight at the Miller farm and Dale must have been at Purdue.  I slept in his room.  I was amazed and fascinated by the model airplanes hanging from the ceiling!  There were planes everywhere!  I felt really special because I got to stay in his room.  A few years later, our family was visiting the farm and Dale was home.  He took Dad and me up into his radio shack on the second floor of the equipment barn.  That's when I learned (and never forgot) Dale's radio call letters W9TIL.  Also, he was building a television set.  Again, I was fascinated!  I am so glad that years later, after I had married a Mishawaka girl I met in college, we moved to Mishawaka and reconnected with Dale and Doris.  I treasured that connection!
