Petty Officer 2nd Class, Danny Phillip Dietz Jr., was #KIA in 2005. Dietz was a #NavySEAL, tasked on a reconnaissance mission with finding a key Taliban leader in mountainous terrain near Asadabad, Afghanistan. On June 28, 2005, a team of four Navy SEALs, tasked for surveillance and reconnaissance of a group, fell into an ambush by members of the Taliban. Dietz was one of three members killed as a result. The location of Dietz’ body was unknown for seven days. His remains were recovered during a search and rescue operation on July 4, 2005, and his remains were returned to the United States. There is a statue erected in Dietz’s memory in his hometown of Littleton, Colorado which was unveiled on July 4, 2007. Dietz’s family honored his life in the 2015 New Mexico Expedition.

From my layovers in Honolulu and visiting Red Wings Memorial Park and my home in Littleton leave a stone, and a salute of respect passing the sign and flag on Santa Fe, every time I pass it, always remember. RIP

Our youngest son went to Heritage HS in Littleton. His freshman year he lockered next to a memorial the school has for you. He didn’t know the relevance of who you are or what you did so we researched you! Walking past your memorial every day had an impact on our son. When he would drive to school he’d have to cross over hwy 85, Danny Deitz Memorial Highway. Our son never met you Danny but you made an impact without knowing. Thank you and your family.
