After a six week's long bombing campaign, the ground combat phase, Operation Desert Storm lasted 100 hours. 147 American troops were killed in combat. 

United States Air Force EF-111 Pilot, Capt. Douglas Bradt and Electronic Warfare Officer, Capt. Paul Eichenlaub II died February 13, 1991. While reports differ, most likely the crew impacted the ground while attempting to avoid a missile from an Iraqi Mirage F1.

Capt. Doug Bradt is interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Capt. Paul Eichenlaub in interred at a private cemetery in Rogers, Arkansas, but as all eligible Veterans can, he received an NCA marker. Both men were 29.

Doug was my first civilian instructor and I was one of his last students before he left for the USAF. I am a USAF vet,77-81, Avionics, 4 years before flying with Doug. Doug was a tough, demanding “Can-do” 110% instructor and he expected the same of his students. You weren’t on his team unless you were ready to be put on the edge, he was like a Marine drill instructor. His students excelled, Doug’s leadership was the best. We often had dinner after flying, often joined by his fiancé. Doug gave me the most heartfelt compliment, he told me I was the best student he ever trained. He said “Jim, had you stayed in the Air Force, you would’ve definitely gotten an F-15 Eagle”. That was Dec 1985. I hadn’t heard from Doug in years, often wondering if he’d gotten one. He built a huge model of an F-15E Strike Eagle at the FBO. Then a few years later Desert Shield/Storm, my brother deployed with the 23rd Marines, I heard the tragic news about Doug, it was like a gut punch. Doug was among the best, elite, a hero to our nation, definitely “The Right Stuff”. God bless you Doug, God bless your family and your buddies, you are indeed missed. I was a young airman when I served with Doug at Mountain Home AFB in Idaho. Doug Bradt was a follower of Jesus and one couldn't help but see that when they met him. Doug was good example to me and others in our squadron. I remember clearly the day we learned that Doug had been shot down during Desert Storm. It was a sad day for me, The gospel was declared and an invitation to know the Lord was given at his funeral on base.  I will always remember Doug fondly, especially every Memorial Day. I know he's with the Lord in eternity and I am looking forward to the day when I will see him again.
