Eddie Bennett was born in 1888 in St. Louis, Missouri. Eddie enlisted in the U.S. Army on both July 18, 1918, and May 21, 1919, both in Springfield, Ohio. He was 5’8” and could read and write. Eddie served in the 25th Infantry, Company HQ, where he achieved the rank of Private First Class. He was first discharged on January 24, 1919, and again on August 13, 1922, both in Camp Sherman, Ohio. After his time in the service, Eddie relocated to Sawtelle, Los Angeles, California, where he worked as a porter. In 1923, he was admitted into the U.S. National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. Eddie was discharged from the disabled veteran's home on October 10, 1927, and continued to live in California. His marital status was reported as single, but his personal effects were left to Alice Bennett. Eddie passed away on June 22, 1931, and was laid to rest at Los Angeles National Cemetery.
