Everett Cade went to heaven at 4:44pm on August 23, 2024, departing from the beautiful Celia’s Hospice House in Medford, Oregon. He died of age-related complications; he was 92.

Everett was born on October 3, 1931, in Tarzana, California to Josephine (Russell) and Lyle Cade. He was the youngest of four children, with two older brothers and a sister. In 1951, he wed his bride and best friend, Sara. It was love at first sight, and they were engaged for a “whopping 29 and a half hours” before saying, “I do.” They were married for almost 70 years. 

Everett was preceded in death by his wife, Sara (Youngblood) Cade, in 2019, and his oldest daughter, Mary, in 2022. He is survived by his daughter Judy and her husband Jim, of Springfield, OR, and his daughter Cindy and her husband, Don, in Medford, OR, as well as several close nephews and nieces. 

He earned his BSL (Bachelor of Sacred Literature) from San Jose Bible College in 1954, and a Master’s in Education from SOU (at the time, in 1964, it was called SOC). 

In between, he served as a Chaplain’s assistant in the army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, attended two years pre-med, and became an ordained minister in 1957. Everett had concurrent careers, serving as a minister, first in Richland, OR and then for the Church of Christ when he moved his family to the Rogue Valley in 1959, and also taught math at Phoenix High School for 24 years, retiring in 1990.

Everett’s first love was his Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, followed by his love and devotion to family and friends. His life was one of dedicated service.

He enjoyed puns and telling jokes, was a collector of model trains and antique telephones, but his true passion was playing the piano every day, even while in hospice. During the pandemic, he started curating music, calling people and playing the piano over the phone to brighten their day with “Guess that song,” up until his death.    

Thank you to all the people who visited Everett over the course of the 72 days he was in hospice, those who gathered around the piano and sang with him, the amazing people at Celia’s House who took loving care of him, the congregation of West Main Church of Christ, the seniors group at Rogue Valley Christian Church, and the many, many people who’ve expressed their love and affection for Everett over the years.

Everett was a loving friend and mentor to our family for so many years!  We will miss him and Sara, but will see them again!

Everett was the kindest person. His strong faith in God was evident in everything he did. He shared his talent of playing the piano with many and blessed so many people. He loved his family. He will be greatly missed but I know I will see him again in heaven where he is with his true love now.

I will miss Everett calling and playing the piano over the phone to my husband and I. He would always ask first if my hubby was with me, so that we could listen together. He would let us decide if we wanted to hear the music first and guess the song, or hear the lyrics first, (lyrics were always very important to him) and then he play the song. Many times he would play a song his sweetheart wrote. (He called his wife his sweetheart.) ♥️ Everett playing for us was always a highlight of our week. Every time he would call, he would have at least one song, if not all of them, about God and Jesus- because he loved them and felt their love so much. He was always looking forward to the day got to see them in heaven and many of his songs were about heaven.

When I first heard that he had passed, I couldn’t help but picture how happy he must’ve been when he came into those pearly gates  that he loved to sing about. It made me think of the song by the group MercyMe called “I can only imagine.”   I can only imagine what it must’ve been like for Everett to see his Savior face-to-face. And to be embraced by that love that he so strongly felt from his Savior. 

Thank you Everret for inspiring me to sing about and talk about the love of Jesus. To tell people about how wonderful my Savior is!  Many times you sang about what Heaven would be like…I’m so excited you are there experiencing it right now!

Uncle Everett has added so much to my life. When I was young, he counseled me when I was considering marrying a man of a different faith. I was not willing to convert nor was my fiancée. Uncle Ev pointed out the many obstacles that can divide a marriage when religions are vastly different. His advice was a blessing that I am so grateful for. 

After he lost Aunt Sara, I really grew to know Uncle Ev. He would read her poems to me and talk about all she had done for others. People began to tell him of the good advice she had given or the kindness that she had done for them. He was so proud of her. His love for Aunt Sara and his family was quite evident and inspiring. His compassionate nature was so moving.

We began to speak on the phone more often. When my fiancée died, Uncle Ev was there for me, despite his own grief. With everything that was happening in his life, he always tried his best to be positive. When he began to call with his piano playing, it was wonderful. He played so beautifully! 

Music was something we shared a love for. I looked forward to his calls and will miss them deeply. My words are so inadequate. I took quite a while to try to express my love and gratitude, but this falls painfully short. To say I miss him doesn't even come close. He had become such a strong part of my life. Uncle Eve was always compassionate, encouraging, beautiful, talented, wise, kind... But these too are only words. They do not express the depth of this lovely, virtuous man.

My heart goes out to my cousins and all the friends and family that love and miss him. There is never enough to say, there are never the right words when it comes to loss. I can only say that I feel it deeply. He was uniquely beautiful. I love you Uncle Ev. Thank You.

Everett was as Christ like as one could be. I think he always aspired to be more like his teacher from the Bible each and every day until he passed.However he also had worldly passions he would  share such as his love of music,trains and of course his extensive array of old telephones.NOT cellphones.He was selfless, brave, spiritual and was always passionate about the people he came into contact with according to his family. He was certainly like that to me.It was a gift to know Everett and I'm certain a gift to many others who had the privilege to know this truly wonderful one of a kind, beautiful man . Thank you EVERETT! 

I have so many wonderful memories of Everett as a family friend and a teacher. He was truly one of the kindest and gentlest humans I ever knew. I can still hear his quiet voice, speaking clever witticisms and see him smirk with a twinkle in his eye. I can feel his love, see his friendly smile and hear his chuckle when I think about him even for a second. The world is a better place for having him be a part of it. He will be missed and thought of fondly by all who knew him. Thank you, Everett 

I always thought highly of your Dad. I used to talk about him to guys at work believe it or not. I was always impressed with his routines and determination and his frugalness. He seemed to let nothing stop him. I’ve never seen a more determined and authentic human being like your Dad. He will be missed. 

It's been one week today since Everett passed.
I wish I could've recorded all the beautiful and kind things people have said about him, such as "Your father was one of my favorite people on the planet!" 
My mother, Sara, said there was no person she respected more than Everett.
Person after person described how being in Everett's presence was healing, loving, and full of light, and how he had the gift of making them feel special. Another said, "I've never seen a man leave this world with such a clean slate."  
Dad, it's a good thing we know where you are - Heaven - or else the loss of you would be too much to bear. We miss you down here. 

Over 31 years ago on September 4th, I was deeply in need of support – my 13 ½ year old Chow-Chow, Caesar needed to be “put down” and I was beside myself in grief.  My Dad – Everett – showed up, dug the pit for him and then sat with me while the vet took care of Caesar.  He was the best Dad I could have asked for.  I have thanked him many times over the years. I did not know that would be his funeral (Interment) date, who could have? 

As one of their nieces, I would call Aunt Sara and Uncle Everrett to visit on the phone. Uncle Everrett would answer the phone and quickly pass the phone to Aunt Sara where we would visit , laugh, and just keep in touch.  After Aunt Sara passed, I wondered how best to stay in touch with Uncle Everrett.  I just started calling him. I didn't know if he would want to visit since we rarely spoke outside of him answering the phone. It was wonderful to hear his voice and to feel his smile coming through. I asked how he was doing or what he was up to. His answer was the same ,wonderful. He always thanked me for thinking of him, and calling . He would end the call with a little joke. Tell me I was loved and then Bye for now.
Many times he would call and play me a song on the piano . It was the sweetest thing I had ever heard. As time passed our calls became shorter. No jokes or chit chat. He was happy I was thinking of him, I was loved and thank you for calling. Bye for now. All the while his smile shining through. It was never the length of our conversations that mattered. It was that he knew I loved him and that he loved me. What more could I ask for? Bye for now Uncle Everett.  Love you, Renae


I came to know Everett just within the last year. I was invited by Jeff Youngblood, Everetts nephew to drive to Medford and meet his uncle Ev. Immediately upon entering Everetts home he made me feel welcomed. Over the next year Jeff and I would visit, go out for lunch and have fellowship in our Lord Jesus. Everett would use his gifts which God had given him by calling me and playing hymn music and reading hymns to me. Many time I was sad when he would call. I was focused on the things that are seen, this temporal world and its troubles and disappointments. But as Everett read the hymns and played the tune I found my focus shifting to the things unseen. In fact I found myself soaring on eagles wings worshipping our God and our Lord Jesus and the things that are seen became dim in the light of Christs glory and grace. I want to be like Everett because he was more like Jesus than I am. Gracious, kind and loving. We will see one another again in the kingdom of our God!

I'm sorry for your loss.  Everett was pastor of the Phoenix Church of Christ when I was a boy.  I remember he was attending SOC at the same time.  He was also my freshman year of high school math teacher at Phoenix High (class of 1967).  It was interesting to see him in his duel roles.  He was wonderful pianist.  Again, I'm sorry for the loss of your father, your mother Sara and your sister Mary.  I pray that our Lord will bring you peace and comfort, remembering John 3:16.  Blessings to you and your family!

Everett was my advanced math teacher when I attended Phoenix High School. He was kind and gentle man with a quick wit, and, if you were as quick to respond, a lifesaver candy was in the offing. He began each class with a "guess what this is" drawing on the overhead projector and whoever correctly identified the image was given a lifesaver candy. i was not a believer in the power of GOD, but knew there was something much greater than what the world offered. 
When I retired, i met a fellow at a "celebration of life in JESUS" service at my church and as we talked, i discovered Everett was retired and living in Medford. I called him 5 years ago and we began a friendship that led to a bible study invitation at his home with several others. He was as kind, gentle and faithful as he was 40 years ago. i met his 3 children and as THE LORD willed, was blessed to be of help to him and them. I grew to love him and his children in a special relationship that only the faithful have, as I watched and prayed thru the years, his oldest daughter Mary, who had fallen away from the faith and was slowly dying of cancer, was utmost on his heart. He asked me to visit her several times in the last couple of months of her life. Every time we visited her, we spoke at length about the mercy and love of GOD and when she lapsed into a coma, the HOLY SPIRIT moved us to visit Mary one more time in Eugene. i shared this with Everett and we left early the next morning. Mary was no longer conscious or communicating but as we prayed and Everett shared the GOSPEL, Mary half opened her right eye, squeezed Everett's hand and we knew she was returning to OUR LORD AND GOD. She passed away that day. HALLELUJAH! 

Everett fought the "good fight, he finished the faith, he kept the faith."

I am Everett’s son-in-law and was the recipient of his nightly “guess that song” call we could get from him.  He would spend hours preparing a list of his favorite songs, rehearse them, then pull out his list of who knows how many telephone numbers to family and friends that he would call and play songs for – with the questions, “Do you want the words first or after the music?” “Do you recognize that song?” “This is my favorite song…”
He would play the songs, read the words, ask if there was anything we wanted to share and a “bye bye for now” to hangup and call the next one on his list.
