Freeland McCray was born between the years of 1874 and 1879. He was born in Arkansas and was married for the first time at age 17. He enlisted in the army on March 7, 1899, and was stationed in San Antonio, Philippine Islands. Freeland served in the 25th Infantry as part of CO. L where he achieved the rank of Private. He was honorably discharged on March 6, 1902. He first moved to Kansas City, where he worked as a teamster for Transfer Co. and as a firefighter. In 1907, at the age of 28, Freeland married his second wife, Ida A. Willson. In September of 1909, the home he rented in Kansas was robbed. Freeland and his wife later moved to Los Angeles, California, where they resided until his passing on April 13, 1932. Freeland McCray was laid to rest at the Los Angeles National Cemetery.
