George W. Goodman was born in 1842, in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was a Black male. He was a Protestant Christian and was able to read and write. He enlisted in the Army on December 17th, 1877, at 35 years old, in Baltimore, Maryland. He held the rank of Private and was assigned to the 9th Cavalry Regiment, Troop D (Buffalo Soldiers). He was discharged on December 17th, 1882. He eventually moved to California and worked as a cook.
	
After moving to a Disabled Soldiers home in Los Angeles, George W. Goodman passed away in 1929 at the age of 86.
