James Talmadge Coker, 78, of Satsuma died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala following a brief illness. A native of Franklin, Ky., he had resided in Putnam County since 1988, coming from San Antonio, Texas. He retired as a staff sergeant from the U.S. Army. He became an operating engineer in the construction industry where he was a member of the San Antonio branch of Local No. 450 International Union Operating Engineers. He was also a Shriner and Master Mason of Blue Lodge No. 679 in Fayetteville, N.C., the Scottish and York Rite bodies and the VFW and American Legion. He was likewise a member of the College Road Church of Christ where he was serving as a deacon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe R. Coker, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna "Ann" Coker of Satsuma, a daughter, Barbara Piazza of Sanford, a son, Jimmy Coker of Satsuma; two stepsons, Robert Corrado of Fayetteville, N.C., and Ronald Corrado of Pine Bluff, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Adeline Elliott of Yakutat, Ala; a brother, Ted Coker of Portland, Tenn., seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous cousins. Visitations were 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home of Palatka. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the College Road Church of Christ with Brother C. L. Overturf, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with the U.S. Army conducting military honors. Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home of Palatka is in charge of arrangements.
