Jonas Scott was born in March 1861 in Maryland. He passed away in 1921 in Los Angeles, CA. Scott served in the Pacific Branch of the military and was a member of the United States Tenth Cavalry. He enlisted on January 23, 1882, and was discharged on January 22, 1887. Scott enlisted from Baltimore, MD, and was stationed at Fort Stockton. Before his service, Scott lived in Maryland, where both of his parents were born. After his service, he lived in various locations including Santa Monica, Sawtelle, and Los Angeles in California. His occupations after service included being a day laborer in 1900 and a street grader in 1910. Scott married Eliza Burton in 1889 in Los Angeles, CA, and they had two children, Molly Scott and Francis Scott. By 1900, he was renting his house. In 1910, he owned his own house on a mortgage, and by 1920, he was mortgage-free and had a lodger. Despite discrepancies about his exact death date, it is certain that Scott’s life was marked by his service in the military and his contributions to his community in Los Angeles.
