Private Ozbourn served with the 23rd Marines, 4th Division through the battle for Tinian Island, Marianas Islands. On July 30, 1944, Ozbourn was working with two other Marines to clear remaining enemy troops from pillboxes. A blast severely wounded Ozbourn just as he was about to throw a grenade. Unable to hurl the dangerous object away from his team, Ozbourn grasped the grenade close to his body and sacrificed himself to save the other men. For his sacrifice, Ozbourn received the Medal of Honor.
