Chief Boatswain's Mate Lauritz Nelson (Spanish-American War) is a Notable burial at https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/longisland.asp. He received the Medal of Honor while serving in the U.S. Navy for his actions on board the USS Nashville in Cuba, May 11, 1898. Nelson was born March 26, 1860, in Norway and entered the US navy in 1885. Later he was sent to fight in the Spanish–American War aboard the torpedo boat USS Nashville as a sailmaker's mate.
Lauritz retired from the navy in 1905 with the rank of Chief Boatswain's Mate.  Nelson died in 1941.
