Mike M. Stokes Jr. was born in Mississippi on February 28th, 1896. His mother, Betty Lewis, was born in Kentucky and his father was a farmer born in Mississippi. Mike was also raised in a Christian household alongside his older sister Mattie, and worked as a farm laborer.  

Mike Stokes entered the U.S. Army on March 10th, 1918 from Mayersville, Mississippi. He was a part of the 25th Infantry in Company C, which was the Engineers Service Branch. Mike’s rank was private first class. He served in World War I and was stationed overseas. Mike Stokes was honorably discharged on June 30th, 1919.  

At 33 years old, Mike was married to Masolin Stokes in Texas. She worked as a maid for a private family while they lived in San Antonio, Texas. Mike worked as a groom for the Home Stables Industry. During this time, he was divorced and re-married to Mrs. Daisy F. Stokes, who lived with him in Colorado County, Texas. Mike and Daisy Stokes moved to California and are buried alongside each other.  

Mike Stokes died on January 11th, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 63.
