Nicola Capone Obituary
Nicola D. "Papa" Capone, 81, of Arnold, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, in the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. He was born May 23, 1941, in New Kensington, to the late Pasquale and Bernetta Fiorentino Capone. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Patsy (Donna) Capone. After graduating from Arnold High School, he went into the Army and was honorably discharged to return home to meet his wife of 53 years. Nicola Capone was a member of Mount St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. He worked in Connecticut and Florida as a bricklayer and stone/mason contractor. Eventually, he moved back to Pennsylvania and retired from the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh after 20 years. He fiercely loved his family and spending time with them. He could not stress enough what a beautiful family he had and reiterated this to the nurses and doctors every chance he got while in the hospital. Additionally, Nicola cherished all of the friends he made along the way, especially his long-lasting friendship with his best buddy, Joe "Peppi" Costa. He loved the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve, making lupini beans, soppressata (Italian hard salami), and his famous homemade spaghetti sauce. He also enjoyed hunting for sheepshead mushrooms. If you ever walked into the Capone house or met him at his beloved camp in Moraine, he would make sure you left with a full stomach and a smile on your face. He enjoyed crabbing and fishing on Merritt Island, Fla., his second home and happy place. His last words were responding to his family when they said, "We love you Papa" were "ditto." He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth J. McAninch Capone; three daughters, Nicole D. (Nicholas) Wisnick, of Natrona Heights, Dawn L. (Brien) Zahorchak, of Cranberry Township, Dominique J. Capone, of Lantana, Fla.; five grandchildren, Cameron (Paige) Zahorchak, Nicala (Merle) Bouchat, Madison Zahorchak, Nicholas Wisnick Jr., Blake Zahorchak; and three great-grandchildren Brooks Zahorchak, Dominic Capone Bouchat and Beckham Zahorchak. Per his wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral service in Pittsburgh as his last wish was for a private family service in his final resting place, Merritt Island, Fla. "Dance with the waves, move with the sea, let the rhythm of the water set your soul free," Christy Ann Martine.
