A devoted husband to Judith for 60 years, a father of 4, a grandfather to 11 , a great grandfather to 7 with 3 more on the way, son of Ralph and Julia Jones, brother to Fr. Ralph Jones and Joanne Morrison. Lt. Colonel in the United States Army who commanded tanks in Europe during the Cuban Missile Crisis, 30-year Public Servant and Administrator for the Seattle King County Health Dept., a Knight of Columbus, a Eucharistic Minister, a baseball coach, a world traveler, a dog lover, a chef, a friend and your greatest ally.
Born in Portland Oregon in 1939, Nova soon moved to California. Between long vacations to Louisiana his family followed his father's job and settled in Des Moines WA. in 1952. A 1957 graduate of Highline High School, Nova went on to study English at Seattle University and enrolled in the ROTC program. While commuting to college his friend introduced him to this lovely lady who would turn out to be his bride of 60 years. Nova and Judy wed on August 26, 1961. Before they could enjoy their honeymoon bliss Nova received orders to ship out and serve his country in Europe (1961-1964). While there Judy gave birth to a daughter and son. When the family returned stateside another daughter was born and not long after came another son. Nova joined the Reserves and served until 1987 reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel. On January 1, 2000 Nova retired from a 30 year career with the Seattle King County Health Dept. He enjoyed many travels with his beloved wife.
Nova died peacefully the evening of Jan 4, 2022 at the age of 82 years 5 months and 17 days.
It's an ancient art to understand someone's soul by interpreting the meaning of their name. But the context of the following story and the previous biographical data will put into perspective the greatness of the man. His birth name , Nova Gale Jones, translates into: A bright shiny star, a powerful and magnificent wind of change, a follower of Jesus
It's time to lay your head and rest soldier! Your duty is over. Your memory, your influence, your impact, your love will live on forever in the deeds you accomplished and the people you served.

You were such an inspiration to me. When I looked at you, you were ten feet tall. From being a kid, playing with every power tool and gadget you had. To watching airplanes endlessly and eating my bodyweight in sweets you always knew how to have the most fun. You inspired me to join the military and carry on the family legacy of service. Getting to share all my accomplishments and special moments with you meant the world to me. If ever I needed anything I knew who to call and who would be there. I love you more than words can convey poppa, I'll always cherish the times we had together and wish for more. Til Valhalla, rest easy sir.
