Phillip Pindall, was born in Prince George County,
Maryland 1731. He was a Captain in Col. Lemuel Barrett's Regiment, Maryland Militia.  He married Rachel Shelby McParland,. 


The record of Phillip Pindall is unique in that he had served many years in the ranks of the Colonial Troops defending the English against the French and Indians and then became an officer in Washington's army to protect the new republic from the English. 

Captain Pindall had thirty one years of continuous service. He enlisted first in CPT Alexander Bell's company of Virginia Colonial troops and accompanied General Braddock on his ill-fated expedition to wipe out the French and Indians at Fort Duquesne. He was present at the slaughter at Duquesne and later at the death of General Braddock on the national Highway.  Colonel Washington of the Braddock expedition later became General Washington of the American Army. He knew the value of the men of the Virginia Colonial regiment and he desired them, for his officers in his newly formed Revolutionary force. In this manner Sergeant Pindall of Capt. Bell's old company became Captain Pindall of the Maryland line. The question is often asked why Phillip Pindall came
from Maryland to the banks of the Monongahela, It is answered by the fact that his land patent presented to him for
his service in the war was for a tract which took in practically all of the land between Morgantown and Rivesville on the west bank of the river and extended far into the interior, at a point about midway of the tract along the river and a short distance from its banks where a fine spring of offered plenty of water, the old fighter settled and raised his family. There his body is buried amid the graves of his wife, his children and many other relatives

Captain Philip Pindall was born in Prince George’s County, Maryland, to Thomas and Jane Pindall. During the Revolutionary War, he enlisted as a private in in Colonel Lemuel Barrett's Regiment of Maryland Militia before gaining a commission as a Captain on May 16, 1778. Pindall died at the age of 73, and was buried in the Wiseman Graveyard near Lowesville, West Virginia before being reinterred at West Virginia National Cemetery on July 23, 1998.
