CPT Desiderio served with the 27th Inf., 25th Division near Ipsok, Korea. On November 27, 1950, Desiderio undertook a personal reconnaissance to better place his men for defense. Wounded twice in action, Desiderio refused evacuation and continued to move amongst his men giving encouragement and repositioning for better defense. In a particularly strong attack by the enemy, Desiderio personally charged the enemy inflicting many losses upon the attackers. Spurred on by Desiderio's sacrifice, his men repulsed the attack and maintained their ground. For his devotion to duty, Desiderio received the Medal of Honor.
