Robert S. Chin was born on February 13th, 1916, in Tungkoon in the Kwangtung Province of China. He was raised by his mother, Chuck Shee. While in China, he completed two years of high school education. At 19, Robert took a ship named ‘President Taft’ from Hong Kong to Sacramento, California, accompanied by his mother and his friend. They arrived in Sacramento on November 12th, 1935. Before World War II, Robert worked as a barboy and lived with a roommate. 
Robert enlisted in 1942 and served in the Army as a Private First Class until 1945.
He gained citizenship after World War II and settled in Los Angeles, where he bought a house. Robert S. Chin passed away on June 24th, 1977, at  the age of 61. At this time, he lived in Los Angeles for 32 years.
