Shigeo Yamasaki was born on April 25th, 1923, in Olaa, Hawaii to a Japanese immigrant family. He completed 9 years of school and worked for the Olaa Sugar Co Ltd 50 hours per week, earning $493 per month. 
Although Shigeo filed out a World War II draft card in 1942, he officially enlisted on March 14th, 1964. Shigeo Yamasaki served as a Staff Sergeant during his time in the Army, and served in the Vietnam War.
Shigeo’s parents, Tadashi and Setsuyo, worked as laborers in the sugar industry and immigrated to the United States in 1918. Shigeo had several siblings, including sisters Asako, Kimuko, and Michiko, and a brother named Tadao. After his service in the military, Shigeo worked as a mechanic in Honolulu, Hawaii. Later in life, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he passed away on July 7th, 1975.
